4 Places to get Help from Wayne State University

4 Places that Give Help at Wayne State University

When you are in school, making ends meet can be extremely difficulty. And if you are making ends meet, having any money left over for anything else is practically unheard of. We are not stranger to the jokes about college students being broke, but it is a serious problem that is on the rise. WSU recognizes this problem, and has several different organizations and programs to help students. Finding help can often me embarrassing, or difficult, especially if you do not know where to start. Here are a few of the different options for help that WSU offers students who are struggling financially.

1. The HIGH Program

The Helping Individuals Go Higher (HIGH) Program is a program run by the university's first lady, Mrs. Jacqueline Wilson. This program is designed to help financially burdened students. The program will assist students with all different kinds of financial problems such as tuition, rent, books, transportation, etc. To find out if you are eligible for this program, go to http://highprogram.wayne.edu/contact.php, and click on the student request for help button on the right side. Fill out the questionnaire and see if the HIGH Program can help you!

2. The W

The W is a newer recourse that WSU has on campus to aid their students who need help. The W is a food pantry, that students have access to. There is an assortment of foods, even fruits and veggies that are given to students who need it. All you have to do is go to the pantry! The pantry is located at 703 W Kirby. For more information on their hours, visit their facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/wsufoodpantry.

3.TIP

The Transition to Independence (TIP) program is a program aimed to help students make the transition to being on their own a little easier. The program offers students who have aged out of the foster care system a chance to truly make it. TIP offers scholarships, care packages, emergency funds, their own food pantry, mentoring and more. For more information and to see if TIP can help you, visit http://www.tipwaynestate.org/about-tip.html.

4. Mike Ilitch School of Business Dress Closet

The Dress Closet is run by the business school, but is an awesome resource. When you are tight on money, it can be hard to find the money to have appropriate and awesome interview attire. The Dress Closet provides you with just that. You can rent a suit, accessories, dresses and more! For more information on this program visit http://bizcloset-wsu.wixsite.com/delta-sigma-pi

Overall, we know that finding the ends you need and making it all come together can be hard. Money does not just grow on trees, sadly, and there are times when you will need help. WSU offers a plethora of resources if you go out looking for them. Although there are just a few listed here, there are many other amazing resources that could help you out!
