Did you know there are more than 58,000 homeless college students worldwide? Not only do college students have to concentrate on getting degrees, maintaining good grades, and balancing jobs, they have to worry about where they may have to sleep for the night.
FASFA ( Free Application for Federal Student Aid) typically only covers tuition, and when it comes down to housing, students are left to fend for themselves. This is a terrifying feeling, that no student should have to face while they are in pursuit of an education.
Many students don't want to dropout of school, simply because they cannot afford it. They want to continue to strive for an education that they believe will help their dream of getting a fulfilling career entails. So students who choose to continue on with financial difficulties are left to go to homeless shelters, couch surfing, or living with family members.
Universities may be aware of how many students are homeless, but these are statistics the school generally won't share. Certain students may not even be comfortable with sharing this information in fear of being embarrassed by their circumstances.
The HIGH Program helps students continue to pursue a college education in dire need, so they can better their chances for academic and career success.
