National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week Events
Attendees will help raise donations and awareness of hunger and homelessness in Detroit.
The week before Thanksgiving, the HIGH Program at Wayne State University will partake in the National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week from Nov. 17 to 21. During this week students, faculty and administration along with the local community are challenged to raise donations and awareness of hunger and homelessness in Detroit.
On Monday, Nov.17 at Wayne State University Campus in Gullen Mall, the National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week will begin. For the entire week the HIGH Program will have special events to bring awareness to hunger and homelessness.
On Tuesday, Nov.17 at Wayne State University General Lecture 100, the HIGH Program will screen a documentary on the past, present and future of homelessness in Detroit followed by the Pursuit of Happyness starring four time Grammy award winner Will Smith.
On Wednesday the organization will host Beautifully Fit & Healthy in Gullen Mall where attendees can learn about the importance of health and wellness during the winter months and how to maintain a healthier lifestyle. This event will include certified International Sports Science Association trains and maintains her client’s weight loss journey. Lulu is also the official trainer for Grammy nominated and Stellar Award Winner Kierra Sheard. In the evening, the HIGH Program will be in the Towers Residential Suites to hear from keynote speaker Armond Harris. Harris was a defensive back for Wayne State University’s Football Team, but is now a member of Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc. and in his last year at Wayne State finishing a degree in business finance. Armond has continued his commitment to a healthy, active lifestyle, with the Fit Foundation of America and Networkingout.
On Thursday Nov. 18 in Gullen Mall, the Thankful Thursday Gift Card Drive will commerce at 11a.m to 2.p.m. Students, faculty and administration along with the local community can donate gift cards from the various eateries around Midtown to help support those students in need of food.
On Friday, Nov. 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m, the National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week will conclude a Candle Light Vigil in Gullen Mall to bring awareness to the 5,000 homeless youth on the streets right here in Detroit.
