On January 26 th , we had the honor of receiving winter coats for Wayne State University students in-need from Orchards Children’s Services. Orchards Children’s Services is a leading agency helping local families come together, stay together, and grow together through adoption, foster care, and family preservation. If you are in need of a winter coat, please send us a request at wsuhighprogram@wayne.edu  . We have several coats for both men and women that are water resistant, hooded, and come in a variety in sizes. The Wyandotte-Downriver branch of AAUW welcomed guest speaker Mary Barden, director of philanthropy for the College of Education at Wayne State University, at its November meeting, held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Trenton. Barden is an advocate for the Helping Individuals Go Higher (HIGH) program at Wayne State University. Though the assumption is that if you are homeless or poor, school isn’t a concern Wayne State students in this situation know that education is the answer. Regardless of the hardships some must face, they are determined to graduate and contribute to the professional and social fabric of the tri-county area.
